Râmeţ Gorge

The popular trail is right next to us: Cheile Râmețului. It starts right behind Valea Mănăstirii and leads through a canyon up until our back yard. It takes between 1-2 hours one way, depending on your speed.

It is leading through the water, and even though there are chains on the sides of the rocks, you probably will get wet, so be prepared for that (and it is also more fun!)

Crossing the gorge is an adventure, but the effort is worth it. We highly recommend visiting the gorge, as it is a very special piece of nature.

ramet gorge
brana caprei

the goat's path

“Brâna caprei” in Romanian follows the same Râmeț Gorge, but this time you are walking along the side of the canyon.

This route offers a special aerial landscape over the gorges. The wild route takes you through narrow passes with steep cliffs that will mesmerize you instantly.

Important: Do not cross with heavy luggage, do not cross by night, and do not cross when it is or has been raining. The stones become slippery and the trail can become dangerous. Also, bring enough drinking water, especially when it’s hot.

Time: 1,5-2,5 hours one way.

waterfall gorge (Cheile Pravului)

At the end of this gorge you find “Ivășcanilor Waterfall” formed by the valley of the same name that comes from the village of Boțani.

It has a height of approximately 10 – 15 meters and cannot be passed.

The extremely spectacular route winds through thick vegetation, bypassing boulders and small waterfalls formed along the gorge.

Time: 3 hours round trip.

Cheile Pravului
Piatra Baltii

Stone pond gorge

or “Cheile Piatra Bălții” in Romanian.

This protected area is made up of two limestone steeps from the Jurassic period with vertical walls cut by the waters of the Mogoș Valley. In dry season, small pools are formed which gave it this name.

These short gorges are only a few minutes away from our household.

Time: 30 min round trip

Boţani

Another trail is a beautiful path to the village of Boțani.

First, you will climb the hill behind our house in south western direction, crossing some pastures where you have a spectacular view over Cheia valley. You will then enter a small forest and descend to the small village.

In Boțani, in the garden of the Bârlutiu family you can find the Peștereanu Cave, where the villagers used to keep their sheep sheltered during the winter, to protect them from the bad weather.

The route starts from Satul Cheia towards Intregalde on the blue triangle tourist marker.

Time: 4 hours round trip.

geogel Gorge & Dupa deal

Another small gorge called “Cheile Geogelului”, on the path to the village of Dupa Deal.

It is located 30 minutes walking distance from Cheia. They form a shady valley with a beautiful flora and are easy to cross during dry days.

However, the gorges can only be crossed with gum boots or wet shoes/feet.

If you continue the path after the gorge is finished, you will ascend and reach soon the village of Dupa Deal, where you can buy homemade cheese and milk at the local farm.

Time: 2,5 hours return trip.

Difficulty: depending on water level
